In recent years, some unscrupulous merchants have been using the names of "Redwood Pavilion" and "Redwood Building" to engage in deceptive business practices. They sell fake hardwood furniture by using the name of redwood, and fabricate stories about how it "almost" met the national standard for redwood, thus misleading consumers.
Red Treasure
Misleading Index: ☆☆☆☆☆
Red Rosewood is commonly known in the market as African Rosewood; in short, it is called Rosewood or African Rosewood.
Red Precious Treasure contains 3 tree species.
Origin and local names: Cameroon leaf BUBINGA, Gabon leaf KEVZINGO, Zaire leaf WAKA, Equatorial Guinea leaf 0VENG. Chinese translations of this genus include Guyi Buti, Guyi Sumu, and Jibaomu.
Some merchants only write "red rosewood" on their product labels without specifying the scientific name of the material. Even worse, some simply write "white rosewood," misleading consumers into believing it's a type of rosewood.
Anselm
Misleading Index: ☆☆☆☆☆
Anselm is not a national standard rosewood. It is commonly known in the market as "African rosewood" or simply "African yellow rosewood". Some merchants call this wood African rosewood because African rosewood is a national standard rosewood. Both are from Africa and are rosewoods, but Anselm has a foul smell that is more unpleasant, and it has a low density, so the logs are not valuable.
African rosewood is mainly produced in tropical Africa.
Other origins: African countries such as Gambia, Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Senegal, and northern Mozambique also produce it. Only those from these six countries are genuine African rosewood and belong to the national standard for rosewood. Those from countries such as Gabon are not African rosewood and do not belong to the national standard for rosewood.
African rosewood, scientifically known as *Pterocarpus angustifolia*, is not a type of rosewood. It is called "African rosewood" in the market because of its beautiful, unrestrained grain pattern, resembling the "ghost face" pattern of regular rosewood, and because it originates from Africa. African rosewood has an unpleasant odor, which is a key characteristic that distinguishes it from other woods.
Another point is that many merchants in the market believe that African rosewood is the same as African padauk, and vice versa. In fact, this is a misconception. What is commonly referred to as African padauk in the market is actually a type of solid wood from Africa, not African rosewood.
In short: African rosewood is not rosewood, and African padauk is not African rosewood.
Shen Guibao South American Rosewood
Misleading Index: ☆☆☆☆
The main rosewood industry area that uses this wood to produce furniture is Zhongshan, Guangdong. Commonly known in the market as "South American rosewood," "East African rosewood," or "Burmese rosewood," these are purely counterfeit. Currently, many of these types of furniture pieces are found in the southern rosewood market, primarily originating from the Zhongshan production area.
Advantages of Shen Guibao:
1. The heartwood is a dark brownish-black color with light brown stripes, the grain is clearly interwoven, and it is glossy, sturdy, and dirt-resistant.
2. It has a moderate density, dries quickly, and has a relatively high hardness.
shortcoming:
1. Low-end hardwoods with poor oil content are prone to cracking during processing and do not belong to the category of mahogany.
2. The wood is prone to hollowing out and developing white edges, making it difficult to extract material and resulting in a low yield.
