Choosing flooring is like "dating"-you meticulously select until you find your perfect match and bring it home immediately. Wooden flooring is warm and comfortable, with a delicate and soft texture, creating a cozy, romantic atmosphere in your home. However, contrary to the promise of unwavering commitment, some flooring quietly changes color...

Why do wood floors change color? There are four main reasons why wood floors change color:

01. Natural color change

Discoloration of wood flooring due to light is a natural property of wood. Over time and with changes in climate, wood flooring may change color, but the changes are not very noticeable and are considered normal, not a quality issue.

02. Sunlight

This type of discoloration is caused by the floor being exposed to sunlight and absorbing ultraviolet (UV) rays. Because the heartwood and sapwood of a wood absorb UV rays at different intensities, their reactions differ, resulting in color variations and varying degrees of discoloration on the floor. Therefore, it's necessary to use sun-shading measures to prevent direct sunlight and thus discoloration of the floor.

03. Caused by moisture

This type of discoloration is caused by improper floor maintenance. Excessive moisture in the floor allows discoloration-causing fungi to multiply, resulting in a color change. High moisture content or excessive humidity can also cause fungal corrosion and discoloration. This type of discoloration requires careful maintenance, especially proper moisture-proofing measures during installation to prevent further damage.

04. Changes in paint surface

This type of discoloration mainly occurs on solid wood floors. Due to long-term use and friction, the finish on solid wood floors will gradually lose its luster and change color if not properly maintained. Therefore, this is why solid wood floors require regular maintenance, waxing, and oiling.

The most important things to prevent floor discoloration are twofold: first, proper maintenance; and second, choosing high-quality flooring.
