Precautions for construction and use of boards during the rainy season

2025-11-04

The soaring humidity during the rainy season brings inconvenience to people's home life and also poses a major challenge to home renovation-what about the construction and storage of wood-based panels? Recently, some renovation projects in various provinces and cities have successively encountered serious problems such as moldy wood materials, excessive moisture in the panels causing them to delaminate and mold, and rust on the supporting joists.

All products from Qiannianzhou Group undergo factory testing, and all indicators meet national standards. However, due to the extreme weather conditions of an exceptionally long rainy season, preventative measures after purchasing materials are still essential. Please read the instructions carefully before use and strictly control risks. Here, Qiannianzhou offers some helpful tips for those currently renovating or about to renovate.

Boards should be stored flat in a well-ventilated, dry place to prevent them from getting wet, damp, or exposed to direct sunlight. During loading, unloading, transportation, handling, and sawing, boards should not be exposed to direct sunlight or rain, otherwise they are prone to mold, deformation, delamination, cracking, and other problems.

The walls and construction environment should be kept dry and properly treated for moisture. Do not use wood reinforcement or substrates with a moisture content exceeding 14s during the renovation process. Slight color variations and minor, natural imperfections on the board surface are normal and simply indicate that you have selected very natural boards!

When renovating during the rainy season, be sure to remind and inform the construction team to take necessary protective measures for products already installed on the walls, such as sealing plasterboard or paint; the contact surfaces of the supporting light steel keel need to undergo secondary anti-corrosion treatment; and unused products must be properly stored and protected. Of course, it's best to avoid construction during the plum rain season or any other rainy season if possible.

When applying mortar to the surface of the board, please first waterproof the substrate surface, and the water content of the mortar should not exceed 40% to prevent excessive water from entering the board and causing blistering, delamination, or mold.

When applying various decorative materials to the surface of boards, the surface must be cleaned and sanded smooth with wood sandpaper. At the same time, please use professional wood-specific adhesives and avoid using inferior glues to prevent the board surface from turning black, moldy, or discolored.

Moisture and mildew risk levels of board materials

Highest risk: Flame-retardant boards, gypsum boards

Risks exist related to: eco-friendly boards, decorative veneer boards, plywood, blockboard, engineered wood, OSB, particleboard, wood framing, secondary veneer products, and paint products.

Although there are risks associated with the construction and use of the above-mentioned boards during the rainy season, if you take the protective measures mentioned above in advance, you can still reduce the risk of moisture and mold!
