Why search high and low for healthy building materials?

Europeans and Americans dare to use wood-based panels freely without worrying about formaldehyde exceeding the standard, because they generally use OSB boards as the base material for woodwork in their home decoration. OSB has no formaldehyde release, is sturdy and durable, and is lighter and flatter than furniture made of medium-density fiberboard.

Today, I'll share some basic knowledge about OSB boards.

01. Origin of OSB

OSB (Oriented Strandboard), also known as oriented strand board or Egger board in China, originated in Europe and was introduced in the 1970s. It is a new type of board that developed rapidly internationally in the 1970s and 1980s.

02. Materials used in OSB

OSB boards are made from small-diameter timber, thinnings, and wood cores. The main raw materials are small-diameter softwood and broad-leaved wood, fast-growing thinnings, such as pine, eucalyptus, fir, and poplar thinnings. The sources are relatively wide and can be made into large-format panels.

OSB boards are made from imported, unpolluted European pine wood that is over 20 years old. They have a dense, sturdy structure, uniform material, and strong load-bearing capacity.

03. OSB Manufacturing Process

An oriented strand board (OSB) is made by processing wood into long shavings using specialized equipment, followed by processes such as degreasing, drying, gluing, directional laying, and hot pressing. Its surface shavings are arranged longitudinally, while the core shavings are arranged transversely. This crisscrossing arrangement restructures the wood grain, completely eliminating the influence of internal stress on processing, resulting in exceptional workability and moisture resistance.

OSB (Organic Strand Board) is a multi-layered engineered wood panel made from fresh pine trees with fine grain and straight fibers. After peeling, the wood shavings are cut along the grain into geometrically shaped pieces (typically 40-120mm long, 5-20mm wide, and 0.40-0.60mm thick). These are then dried, coated with synthetic resin and a waterproofing agent to mimic the fiber arrangement of natural wood. The shavings are then oriented and laid into a board shape, followed by high-temperature hot pressing. The top and bottom layers are symmetrical with the core layer. The surface shavings are arranged longitudinally, while the core layer's are arranged transversely. This overlapping and vertically interlaced structure gives the finished product extremely high mechanical properties and dimensional stability, allowing it to remain unchanged even under prolonged heavy loads.

04. Application of OSB Board

OSB boards have a wide range of applications, including interior decoration, furniture making, house construction, and packaging materials.

Healthy building materials-no need to search far and wide, just look around, and you'll find Moganshan OSB boards right under your nose. Green and environmentally friendly, worth buying.
