UV paint generally refers to light-cured coatings (photosensitive coatings).
Photocurable coatings, also known as photosensitive coatings, use ultraviolet light as the curing energy for the coating, hence the name UV-curable coatings. They do not require heating and can rapidly cure into a film on flammable substrates such as paper, plastics, leather, and wood. They are mainly composed of photosensitive resin, photosensitizer (photoinitiator), and diluent, with the addition of additives such as heat stabilizers. Pigments and fillers are added during the preparation of colored paints. Photosensitive resins are generally low molecular weight resins with unsaturated bonds, such as unsaturated polyesters and acrylic oligomers; photosensitizers are compounds that readily absorb ultraviolet light and generate active free radicals, such as benzophenone and benzoin alkyl ethers; the main function of the diluent is to reduce the viscosity of the coating, and it also participates in the curing process, acting as an active diluent, such as styrene and acrylates. The advantages of photocurable coatings are short curing time (from a fraction of a second to a few minutes), low curing temperature, and low volatile content, making them a new type of coating that is energy-saving, resource-saving, pollution-free, and highly efficient.
