Having just bid farewell to the swirling willow catkins, we've now entered the rainy season. Continuous overcast skies and rain have left the ground damp, causing varying degrees of damage to wooden floors and significantly reducing the comfort of our homes. So, how should we care for our valuable wooden floors during the humid rainy season?
Close the windows and ventilate intermittently.
During the rainy season, keeping windows closed is important, especially before leaving the house. Be sure to check south- or southeast-facing windows to prevent rainwater from blowing into the house and wetting furniture and floors. Keeping windows closed also prevents more moisture from entering the house. You can choose to open windows in the afternoon or evening when the weather is relatively dry to regulate indoor air.
External force to remove dampness
When the external environment is humid and the indoor humidity is high, you can use heating equipment such as air conditioners, heaters, and underfloor heating. These heating devices are all external helpers for dehumidification. As the indoor temperature and humidity increase, the air becomes drier, and the humidity will naturally decrease.
Keep dehumidifier packs at home
For families with wooden floors, especially those in southern regions, it's essential to keep desiccants and dehumidifier packets on hand. These are invaluable tools for dehumidifying during the rainy season. Placing desiccants and dehumidifier packets under sofas, in corners, or under beds in the bedroom won't affect aesthetics and will effectively remove moisture.
Regular waxing and maintenance
Many consumers neglect the maintenance of their wood flooring after purchasing it. As a result, the flooring is prone to problems due to environmental factors and improper use, leading to a short lifespan. It's essential to have professionals regularly wax and maintain the floor, forming a protective film on the surface. This not only prevents moisture penetration but also protects against bacteria and dust, making even the rainy season much easier. For expensive solid wood flooring, proper maintenance is even more crucial.
