Over 90% of panel furniture brands use particleboard. Currently, particleboard is one of the most affordable, practical, and structurally stable materials in panel furniture. Multi-layer solid wood boards are a choice or upgrade material, and their price difference compared to particleboard is about 20%.
Under the same environmental quality requirements, multi-layer solid wood boards are better than particleboard and many other types of boards available on the market. This is because multi-layer solid wood boards have better stability, stronger nail-holding power, and better moisture resistance. Of course, they also have drawbacks; for example, multi-layer boards are not suitable for high-gloss finishes. In home applications, they are generally suitable for cabinetry. Many multi-layer solid wood boards now also have good environmental performance, decent quality, and reasonable prices.
The panels used in custom panel furniture are made primarily of particleboard, with a melamine finish that makes them wear-resistant and scratch-resistant. The panels meet environmental standards; currently, the national mandatory environmental standard is E1, and many brands have already upgraded to E0 grade. Through years of continuous effort, particleboard has adapted to the differences in climate between the north and south and various environmental conditions, making it a preferred material! The advantages of particleboard are as follows:
1. Particleboard is easy to finish. Various coatings and paints can be applied evenly to particleboard, making it the preferred substrate for achieving painted finishes.
2. Particleboard is also a beautiful decorative board material.
3. Various wood veneers, printing paper, PVC, adhesive film, melamine impregnated paper, and light metal sheets can all be used to finish the surface of solid wood particleboard.
4. Hardwood particleboard can be punched and drilled to make sound-absorbing panels, which can be used in building decoration projects.
5. Excellent physical properties, uniform material, and no dehydration issues.
Wardrobes made of multi-layer solid wood panels are often made by carpenters at home, or are custom-made. Multi-layer solid wood panels have a wood veneer surface, which has the grain of wood, excellent stability, and is easy to clean. The moderate price of multi-layer solid wood panels makes them popular with many homeowners.

If the renovation budget is sufficient, multi-layer solid wood boards are definitely a grade higher than solid wood particle boards in terms of materials alone. However, there is no difference on the surface. Personally, I prefer to choose solid wood particle boards, which have a better cost performance.
