A good wardrobe must have solid wood furniture boards.

During the cold winter, staying at home has become the norm. This year, due to the impact of the pandemic, many people are also paying attention to housing policies, real estate company updates, and home renovation knowledge.

Because home is the goal that everyone strives for, home decoration is not a simple matter. Furniture is an important part of decoration, and the most important thing to solve when making furniture is the choice of materials. Should we choose particleboard or plywood?

Let's take a look!

01. Examine the raw materials

In terms of raw materials, multi-layer solid wood boards are made from rotary-cut veneers of large-diameter timber, making them the closest to solid wood in terms of raw materials, and the quality of the finished boards is easier to control. Particleboard, on the other hand, often uses wood chips, sawdust, and may even be mixed with waste cardboard boxes, broken old doors and windows, old flooring, etc., making it difficult to control the raw materials and resulting in inconsistent quality of the finished boards.

02. Examine the physical properties

In terms of physical properties, multi-layer solid wood boards are made by laying veneers horizontally and vertically under pressure, resulting in uniform stress that gives them excellent physical properties. Furthermore, the internal shrinkage and expansion coefficient of multi-layer boards after high-temperature hot pressing is very small, minimizing deformation and cracking, thus increasing product quality stability. Particleboard, due to its structure, lacks these performance advantages.

03. Examine the production process

Solid wood multilayer boards have stable physical properties and are easy to process. In furniture making, they can be processed quickly using specialized machinery and equipment, or by carpenters using hand saws or precision saws. They are also less prone to chipping or cracking. Particleboard, on the other hand, has unstable properties and is generally only produced using large-scale equipment from large manufacturers, making it difficult to guarantee the quality of particleboard on the market.

04. Check the nail-holding power

In terms of nail-holding power, multi-layer solid wood boards have a clear advantage. The nail-holding power of a board largely depends on its inherent physical properties. Due to its unique manufacturing process, multi-layer solid wood boards maintain their nail-holding power even after repeated disassembly and reassembly. Particleboard, on the other hand, generally has inconsistent nail-holding power, and repeated disassembly and reassembly can easily lead to loosening of the furniture, severely impacting its lifespan.

05. Check the environmental performance.

Using eco-friendly adhesives, and with plywood using less glue, the production process involves applying glue to each layer of veneer under pressure, ensuring quality control from the source and providing greater assurance in terms of environmental protection. By using environmentally friendly plant-based adhesives, the environmental performance of solid wood plywood exceeds national standards. Particleboard, on the other hand, is a type of chipboard that uses a large amount of glue. To reduce costs, cheaper urea-formaldehyde glue is often chosen, resulting in a significant compromise in the environmental friendliness of the finished product, making it difficult to guarantee its environmental friendliness.

06. Observe market trends

Most people believe that particleboard is the mainstream material in the market, while plywood is only used by small furniture factories. However, this is not the case. Currently, internationally renowned brands use many times more solid wood plywood annually than many domestic particleboard manufacturers. Solid wood plywood offers more innovative designs, and their professional R&D teams are always at the forefront of the market. In contrast, some domestic brands, when using particleboard, operate almost exclusively within the domestic market, unable to expand internationally, and their design updates lag behind market trends.

Solid wood furniture boards are superior to particleboard in all aspects, making them a more suitable material for furniture making.
