4. Plywood
Blockboard, also known as plywood or core board, is a type of board made by gluing and hot-pressing natural rotary-cut veneers and solid wood panels. Based on the quality of the materials and the texture of the veneer, it can be classified as "superior grade," "first grade," and "qualified grade." The core material can also be poplar, birch, pine, paulownia, and other varieties.
The surface material can be one or two layers of veneer glued to both sides of the core, and can be classified as three-layer blockboard, five-layer blockboard, etc. Problems during the production of blockboard include excessive formaldehyde release, substandard transverse bending strength, substandard product moisture content, and low bonding strength. Adding a layer of 3mm wood-grained plywood to the outside of the blockboard before painting is a common practice in modern woodworking furniture.
