Solid wood flooring is popular with consumers due to its natural beauty, warm texture, comfortable feel, high-end appearance, and sophisticated style. However, the market offers a wide variety of solid wood flooring types with varying prices and performance specifications. So, what should consumers pay attention to when purchasing solid wood flooring?

01. It is necessary to measure the moisture content of the floor.

National standards stipulate that the moisture content of wood flooring should be 8%-13%. However, due to my country's vast territory, moisture content requirements vary by region. In northern my country, the moisture content of flooring should be 12%, while in southern China, it should be controlled below 14%. Generally, wood flooring dealers should have moisture meters. When purchasing, you can first measure the moisture content of the solid wood flooring displayed in the showroom, and then measure the moisture content of the same type and specifications of wood flooring that is still in its original packaging. If the difference between the two measurements is ±2%, the flooring is considered合格 (qualified/compliant).

02. Observe and measure the floor precision.

The processing precision of flooring is relatively easy to test. You can check the precision and flatness of the flooring by looking at it and touching it. You can also randomly select 8-10 pieces of flooring on-site and splice them together to measure whether there are large height differences.

03. Carefully inspect the substrate.

When inspecting the base material, first check if the flooring in the same package is made of the same tree species and whether there is any mixing of species. Then check for defects such as dead knots, live knots, cracks, and rot. Regarding color differences in the flooring, since solid wood flooring is a natural wood product, it will naturally have color variations and uneven grain patterns. Color differences will also appear under different lighting conditions, which is unavoidable. However, from another perspective, the point of laying solid wood flooring is to achieve a natural feel, so there's no need to worry about color differences. Simply lay similar colors together and make minor adjustments during installation.
