Home renovation is arguably the most expensive project, so budget constraints are a major concern. A detailed initial budget is crucial, the more detailed the better. However, many factors can change during the renovation process, and plans may not always go as expected. So, what should you do if you run out of budget? The answer is simple: cut costs. Today, we'll discuss contingency plans and how to cut costs without affecting the overall renovation.
1. Windows
Even in unfinished apartments, developers usually install windows. These windows are typically single-pane glass, so their sound insulation is generally only average. However, if you don't live in a noisy area like near a road or railway and have a limited budget, these windows are sufficient and don't need to be replaced.
2. Floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows
Many songs and TV shows feature the beauty of floor-to-ceiling windows, making them a desirable feature for many. However, converting a window to a floor-to-ceiling window is expensive, and if the view isn't great, it's really not worth it. While floor-to-ceiling windows offer excellent light and airflow, their ventilation can be quite poor.
3. Door
Just like windows, the developer will install security doors. Following the same principle, if the door is of good quality, you don't need to replace it; you just need to buy a new lock and install it, which can save you several thousand dollars.
4. Lighting fixtures and curtains
Buying lighting fixtures and curtains doesn't necessarily require choosing big brands, as some niche brands offer excellent quality. If you have time, you can also browse online. When buying online, pay attention to the dimensions of the light fixtures, as many pictures appear larger due to the shooting angle. If you don't like online shopping, you can visit large lighting wholesale markets; the prices aren't expensive. The lights in my home were mostly purchased from a wholesale market: the living room, dining room, three bedrooms, and balcony lights totaled 3700 yuan, while the downlights were bought online for 300 yuan, bringing the total to 4000 yuan.
5. Furniture
Solid wood furniture is naturally more expensive. If you have a limited budget, you can choose non-solid wood furniture, which can be several times more expensive. Interestingly, some furniture brands price the bed as a single unit, with bedside tables costing extra, and the price can be quite high. Therefore, you should ask about the price before purchasing and try to buy a complete bed set.
6. Home appliances
Many people believe that "foreign home appliances = high-quality home appliances," but in fact, Chinese home appliances are also of very good quality. Brands like Gree and Midea offer excellent value for money and are the first choice for many ordinary families. When buying home appliances, pay attention to their energy efficiency. Choose appliances with a Level 1 energy efficiency rating for greater energy savings and cost savings in the long run.
Besides the above, soft furnishings can also be expensive, so you can do what you can afford and add them gradually.
