Research and Development Background
There have always been pain points in the whole-house customization and decoration industry: strong indoor odor and excessive TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds).
Why do indoor odors and excessive TVOC levels occur after renovation?
The reasons may include factors such as latex paint, glass glue, wallpaper glue, expanding foam, edge banding glue, and edge banding strips. However, one unavoidable reason is the use of low-end oriented strand board (OSB) products for the initial decoration, and the use of whole-house custom-made boards that do not meet environmental standards. Whole-house custom-made furniture has high environmental requirements; cabinet doors and bodies typically use boards that meet environmental and odor control requirements. However, the selection of back panels is limited. High-quality fiberboard and plywood are expensive, and low-end particleboard products affect the overall quality, resulting in a limited range of back panel options.
How to choose more suitable materials?
First, we consider the environmental friendliness and odor of the materials; second, we consider the finish; third, we consider the texture; and finally, we consider the cost. After screening, thin high-strength particleboard meets all four requirements. Firstly, it achieves low odor and a high environmental rating; secondly, it can meet various texture and color requirements, while maintaining color consistency with cabinet bodies, doors, and interior doors, avoiding color differences caused by different substrates of the same paper; thirdly, the product is not hollow but consistent inside and out, and it is not rigid but has a certain degree of elasticity, possessing the texture and warmth of wood; fourthly, the material cost is significantly lower, offering high cost-effectiveness.
Research and application of thin high-strength particleboard
Jia Nuowei Group is actively developing thin, high-strength particleboard. Large-diameter timber is debarked to produce pure wood shavings, which are then screened to create OSB (Oriented Strand Board) products. Smaller shavings, around 2 cm in diameter, form the core layer, with finer materials laid on the top and bottom surfaces. After hot pressing, curing, and sanding, the resulting thin, high-strength particleboard is produced. Currently, thin, high-strength particleboard with thicknesses ranging from 3 to 9 mm is in production, and there are plans to develop a 2.5 mm thick version.

Thin high-strength particleboard has the following characteristics:
I. High environmental protection standards; ENF, F☆☆☆☆, and E0 levels can be easily achieved.
Second, it has a low odor and removes bark and odor from large-diameter timber.
Third, it has a good finish, with a smooth and delicate surface and high flatness, which can meet various finish requirements and can be the same color as the cabinet door and interior door to avoid color difference.
IV. The core layer is entirely composed of uniformly thick sheet-like wood shavings, with a dense, uniform, and symmetrical structure that is easy to process and not easily deformed.
Fifth, it has a good texture and possesses the characteristics of wood products, such as warmth, elasticity, sound absorption and heat insulation, and a comfortable feel.
VI. Affordable price, high quality and low cost, easy to popularize. It is fundamentally different from low-end and mid-range thin particleboard on the market. This production process of peeling logs and shaving long wood, as well as the product's sheet structure and high purity, achieves the unique characteristics of high quality, high strength and thinness in China.
Applications of thin high-strength particleboard
Thin high-strength particleboard can be widely used in wall panels. For example, using high-quality formaldehyde-free OSB board as a base and thin high-strength particleboard as the finish is a superior wall panel combination. In addition, thin high-strength particleboard can be used for furniture back panels, interior door panels, drawer bottoms, luggage bottoms and side panels, solid wood laminated panels, and aluminum honeycomb laminated panels, among other applications.
To date, the total designed production capacity of engineered wood products by Jianuowei Group has reached 2.2 million m³/year.
