There are many types of wood used in home decoration, and the choice of which space to use depends on the characteristics of the wood.
01. Interior decoration materials include solid wood boards, plywood, decorative panels, blockboard, particleboard, MDF, fireproof boards, finger-jointed boards, and straight-jointed boards used in homes and offices; they also include raw materials for producing wooden joists used for support, fixation, or shaping.
1. Solid wood boards are wood panels made from whole pieces of timber. These boards are sturdy, durable, and have natural grain, making them an excellent choice for decoration. However, due to their high cost and demanding construction techniques, they are not commonly used in decoration. Solid wood boards are generally classified according to their type of wood and do not have uniform standard specifications.
2. Plywood, also known as laminated board or thin-core board in the industry, is made of three or more layers of one-millimeter-thick veneers or thin sheets glued and hot-pressed together. It is currently the most commonly used material for handmade furniture. Plywood is generally divided into six specifications: 3mm, 5mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, and 18mm (1mm is equal to 1mm).
3. Decorative panels, commonly known as veneers, are decorative boards made by precisely slicing solid wood boards into thin veneers of about 0.2mm thickness, using plywood as the base material, and then gluing them together. They have a single-sided decorative function. It is a special type of plywood, with a thickness of 3mm.
02. Interior decoration materials for villas or public buildings also include solid wood stair components (posts, steps, tops, skirting boards, etc.), often made of oak, hemlock, or ash.
03. Special interior decorations also use some special raw materials of wood. For example, when decorating a Japanese tatami-style room, Japanese screens and sliding doors made of Canadian Sterk spruce may be used.
