Currently, more and more young consumers are choosing custom-made furniture. The boards used in custom-made furniture not only affect the quality of the furniture but also are closely related to the health and comfort of the whole family-they are of paramount importance. Therefore, choosing high-quality boards ensures that the family can enjoy a safe and green home life with peace of mind. Today, we'll briefly discuss what points to look for to judge the quality of boards.
Look at the package
First, you can use your eyes and touch to judge the quality. Feel the front and back of the wood packaging to see if it is flat and smooth, and whether there are any bumps or bubbles. If it is not smooth and feels rough, you should start to suspect that it is a poor-quality packaging.
Look at the side
Next, let's look at the side edge banding. The most significant problem with substandard side edge banding is poor adhesion between the edge banding strip and the side. There are two main reasons for this:
Firstly, because both particleboard and MDF are made by gluing together scraps, the edges are not smooth and rough. If the amount of glue used for the edge banding is insufficient, it is very easy for the edge banding to fall off.
Secondly, the adhesive used for the edge banding strips is of poor quality and is prone to failure. Inferior adhesives may bond well for the first year or two, but as time goes on, oxidation and moisture in the air can cause them to fall off and fail. Many merchants will use "improper use by the customer" as an excuse to leave consumers with no recourse.
Solid wood eco-boards and solid wood multi-layer boards have smoother cuts than particleboard and MDF, so under the same conditions, their bonding effect is definitely better than that of particleboard and MDF.
Sample testing
Try to pry it open and see if the packaging material loosens. If it does, the packaging material is definitely not firmly bonded or there are gaps in the bonding surface, which will not effectively prevent the formaldehyde in the inner material from evaporating.
Use a sharp object to cut open the packaging surface and check the thickness of the packaging material. Generally, a thickness of 1-1.5mm is considered to meet the standard, which can effectively block the volatilization of formaldehyde in the inner material.
Peel off the edge banding
Currently, PVC edge banding is the main material, so the removal process is relatively easy. Check the flatness of the wood cross-section and the area of adhesive. If only a small area is covered with glue, it is easy to imagine that the effect will be poor. Of course, you can also take the opportunity to smell whether there is a pungent odor to make a simple judgment on the quality of the adhesive used.
