The market offers a dazzling array of wood-based panels. As the quality of these panels improves, so do the precautions for their use; careless handling can damage the surface and even harm your health. Having good panels alone isn't enough; you also need to know how to use them properly!
Many consumers believe that the drier the wood, the better, but this view is incorrect. Only when the moisture content of wood remains stable within a normal range can quality problems be prevented in home decoration. The moisture content of wood and other wood-based materials used in home decoration should generally be around 8%-12%. Too high or too low a moisture content will cause quality problems with the wood products used in home decoration.
When purchasing timber for renovations, you can't determine the moisture content of the wood simply by looking at it or touching it. However, there are some tips to help you determine if the wood's moisture content is within acceptable limits. Generally, well-dried wood has obvious characteristics: it's noticeably lighter, doesn't feel cold to the touch, makes a crisp sound when tapped, and produces a "whooshing" sound when planed; it also has a smooth surface. Wood with high moisture content, on the other hand, is heavier, feels cold to the touch, and doesn't produce a crisp sound when planed; this type of wood should not be used.
The boards are of good quality, but various after-sales issues can still arise, including problems caused by improper installation. Therefore, we have compiled some precautions:
1. In home renovation, the key to wood quality lies in construction, especially in the handling of details: After all wood products are installed, a coat of paint should be applied immediately. This coat of paint, known as "topcoat," not only protects the wood products but also acts as a barrier against moisture, maintaining the wood's normal moisture content.
2. Water must not be added to the adhesive. Currently, white glue is commonly used as an adhesive for joints in wood products during home renovations. Some workers, in an attempt to cut corners, dilute the white glue with water. This not only reduces the strength of the adhesive, but also makes the wood products more susceptible to quality problems after absorbing moisture.
3. If the boards have not yet been installed after purchase, they should be wrapped in plastic packaging to prevent moisture damage.
4. Keep your home environment clean and moderate, and ventilate frequently by opening windows to prevent mold growth.
5. Ventilate frequently to keep the cabinet dry.
6. Take some time to do a thorough cleaning of the house, wiping down cabinets and other items to keep it clean.
7. Place some desiccant in the corners of the cabinet (such as lime).
