How can you determine if a board material is environmentally friendly? The key to determining whether a board material is environmentally friendly lies in the adhesive used.

As the saying goes, "No glue, no board." The glue here refers to the board adhesive we are talking about. It not only has the functions of bonding, ensuring the moisture content of the board, balancing the acidity and alkalinity of the board, and enhancing the strength of the board, but it is also the fundamental factor in whether the board is environmentally friendly!

Traditional adhesives

Inferior boards mainly use adhesives containing large amounts of formaldehyde, such as urea-formaldehyde resin, phenol-formaldehyde resin, and melamine-formaldehyde resin. Taking urea-formaldehyde resin as an example: urea-formaldehyde glue is made by the condensation polymerization of urea and formaldehyde (1:1.5). One board made of urea-formaldehyde glue requires 1 kg of formaldehyde to synthesize. Just one wardrobe (about 6 boards) requires 6 kg of formaldehyde, which is a shocking amount!

Formaldehyde is a carcinogen and teratogen identified by the World Health Organization. It not only severely damages the skin, respiratory system, digestive system, and immune system, but also induces gene mutations and can cause cancer. Furthermore, formaldehyde released from these adhesives is slow and prolonged, with a release period that can last from 3 to 15 years. Living in such an environment long-term poses a serious threat to the health of family members and children, let alone creating a healthy and safe home environment!

MDI formaldehyde-free adhesive

Of course, not all glues contain formaldehyde, for example: MDI formaldehyde-free eco-friendly glue.

MDI is a formaldehyde-free, safe, stable, and high-strength polymer that has been used in aircraft interiors, refrigerator liners, and even in the medical field where high safety is required, such as implantation in heart valves and artificial blood vessels, making it safe and reliable.

Currently, only four countries worldwide (China, Germany, the United States, and Japan) can produce MDI, and Huazhou Wood Industry is one of the very few companies in China that uses MDI formaldehyde-free eco-friendly adhesive to produce wood-based panels. Using MDI adhesive as the bonding agent for these panels eliminates concerns about added formaldehyde, and this advanced technology brings people a healthy and safe home environment.

As early as 2014, Huazhou had already broken through the technical barriers of MDI adhesive formation, using MDI formaldehyde-free eco-friendly adhesive as the adhesive for its boards, and produced the world's first formaldehyde-free solid wood particleboard. This achieved a qualitative leap in the environmental protection level of its boards, from E0 grade to F4 star to formaldehyde-free.

Currently, Huazhou's formaldehyde-free particleboard has a formaldehyde emission level of ≤0.02mg/m³, which not only obtains dual certification from the US NAF formaldehyde-free certification but also exceeds the new Chinese national standard ENF formaldehyde-free grade. (On March 9, 2021, my country's GB/T 39600-2021 "Classification of Formaldehyde Emission from Wood-based Panels and Their Products" was released: the formaldehyde emission limit for ENF formaldehyde-free grade is ≤0.025mg/m³.)
