Introduction

This paper mainly introduces the technical requirements and production process of particleboard for solid wood composite doors, its application in wood door production, and an analysis of common quality problems.

Shandong Heze Maosheng Wood Industry Co., Ltd. has developed and produced particleboard specifically for solid wood composite door production based on market demand. In addition to the standard 2,440 mm × 1,220 mm, the product specifications also include irregular sizes such as 2,135 mm × 915 mm and 2,440 mm × 915 mm. At the same time, in order to further meet market demand, it has also developed functional particleboard for wooden doors such as flame retardant, formaldehyde-free, and mildew-proof. In addition to meeting the domestic market, it is also exported to overseas markets such as the United States and the Philippines.

1. Technical requirements for the production of particleboard for wooden doors

1.1 Particleboard for door frame

1) Production process requirements. Wood ratio: mixed hardwood: poplar = 2:8, moisture content of wood shavings after drying is (2±0.5)%, paraffin application is 0.8%, hardener application is 3%, and the total glue application is 100-120 kg/m³.

2) Product Quality Requirements. The density should be 500–520 kg/m³, with a surface density of 850–950 kg/m³ for the finished board. The cross-sectional density should be uniform, and the ratio of the minimum density to the average density should be greater than 70%. The moisture content of the finished board should be (6.5±1.5)%, and the internal bond strength should be ≥0.25 MPa. Other quality requirements should meet the performance requirements for furniture-type particleboard used in a dry state as specified in GB/T 4897-2015 "Particleboard". The product thickness is generally 35–50 mm. After sanding, the board surface should be smooth and delicate, with no exposed large particleboard particles, and the core particleboard structure should be homogeneous.

1.2 Particleboard for door panels

1) Production process requirements. The wood is all poplar, with a shaving moisture content of (2±0.5)% after drying. The paraffin wax application rate is 1.0%, the hardener application rate is 3%, and the total adhesive application rate is 90-110 kg/m³. To ensure a smooth and delicate product surface, the diameter of the surface shavings should generally not exceed 1.2 mm, and the proportion of surface shavings should not be less than 35%.

2) Product Quality Requirements. The density should be 650–700 kg/m³, with a surface density of 950–1050 kg/m³ for the finished board. The cross-sectional density should be uniform, and the ratio of the minimum density to the average density should be greater than 80%. The moisture content of the finished board should be (6.5 ± 1.5)%, and the internal bond strength should be ≥0.35 MPa. Other quality requirements should comply with the performance requirements of furniture-type particleboard used in a dry state as per GB/T 4897-2015. The product thickness is generally 8–12 mm. After sanding, the board surface should be smooth and fine, without exposed large particleboard fibers, and no obvious sanding streaks or sand grain shedding marks are allowed.
