How to install wood flooring?

More and more people are choosing wood flooring when decorating their homes, not only because it is a symbol of a good lifestyle, but also because it has advantages such as good heating performance, noise reduction, and a more comfortable and warm feel underfoot.

Moreover, in interior design, whether it's the rugged, metallic industrial style or the natural and fresh Nordic and Japanese styles, wood flooring can handle them all well, being versatile and extremely aesthetically pleasing.

Wood flooring installation

People often say that 70% depends on the flooring and 30% on the installation, but that's not true. It depends more on the installation workmanship.

Four No Shops

Before laying the flooring, you should have a good understanding of the construction site:

Do not carry out construction on surfaces that are not dry (damp), clean, smooth, or uneven, as this may cause damage to the floor.

Construction should not be carried out if there are termites in the surrounding environment to prevent termites from building nests and damaging the floor.

Construction work should not be carried out simultaneously or in a mixed manner at the construction site to avoid damage to the floor caused by falling debris, trampling, or heavy objects during construction.

If the construction period is too short, the process cannot be carried out. If the construction period is too rushed, many details of the process may not be implemented properly.

Installation method

For engineered wood flooring, we typically use a floating installation method, where a subfloor is laid first, and then the flooring is installed.

There are two advantages to this: first, the floor mat can prevent the floor from being damaged by moisture; second, it can act as a buffer between the floor and the ground, reducing the friction between the floor and the ground caused by the weight of the people, and extending the service life of the floor.

One important point to note is that when laying floor mats, they should not overlap; the joints should be sealed with tape.

Precautions

The flooring should be installed starting from the left side of the room, with the grooved side facing the wall, and a special pad should be inserted (this pad should be removed when the installation is finished).

At the same time, an expansion gap of 8-12 mm should be reserved to prevent the wood flooring from bulging and deforming due to increased moisture content. If the gap is not reserved enough, it will cause the floorboards to bulge and arch.

The joints between floorboards should be tight, and there should be no obvious height difference (<0.15mm) or obvious gaps (<0.15mm) between floorboards.

When installing baseboards, the holes drilled in the wall must be at the same height, and the pipes inside the wall must not be damaged.

The joints at both ends of the skirting board should be tight and of consistent height, and the nail holes on the skirting board must be covered with putty of the same color.
