A wardrobe is a large storage unit in the bedroom. Generally, wardrobes occupy an entire wall, which can make the bedroom space feel cramped.
Today, we'll share some tips on how to design your bedroom wardrobe to make the space feel less cramped.
We recommend saving this post. Even if you don't need it immediately, saving it will help you find it later!
01. Wardrobe with Open Shelves
When an entire wall is covered by a wardrobe, the overall design naturally feels oppressive and cramped. Adding a row of open shelves to the wardrobe can effectively alleviate this feeling of crowding, making the space feel more open, spacious, and comfortable.
02. Open Hanging Area
Clothes worn only once are too dirty to leave in the wardrobe, and washing them isn't something you want to do right now (especially down jackets and thick coats). Throwing them on the bay window/sofacial table only creates a mess.
If you include an open hanging area when designing your wardrobe, you can easily hang clothes you only need to change into, keeping the space clean and tidy.
03. Wardrobe + Dressing Table Combination
For fashion-conscious women, a dressing table is indispensable. However, traditional ready-made dressing tables can look cramped and cumbersome in a bedroom, affecting the overall aesthetic.
Combining a dressing table with a wardrobe makes full use of space, creates a unified style, gives the space a cohesive feel, and makes it appear more spacious and elegant.
04. Wardrobe + Desk Combination
Similar to a dressing table, you can replace it with a desk, embedding it in the middle of the wardrobe. This makes the desk look cleaner and more elegant, creates an open space in the wardrobe, making the space feel more spacious, and allows for a bookshelf above the desk to display books, picture frames, and decorative items, making the bedroom more charming and refined.
05. Wardrobe + Bedside Table Combination
If your bedroom is narrow, you can transform the lower part of the wardrobe into a display area, with bedside tables embedded within. This extends the sense of space and provides ample space for lamps, decorations, or books. This allows even a small bedroom to have a bedside table, and the open design within the wardrobe makes the space feel more spacious, practical, and elegant.
06. Wardrobe Door Selection
1. Glass Door Wardrobe
If your wardrobe has limited space and no room for open shelves or other features, a glass door design is a great alternative. Glass doors make the wardrobe appear more spacious and stylish. To avoid the interior being completely visible through the glass doors, you can choose tinted glass, which increases the sense of openness while still allowing a clear view of the interior.
2. Hinged Door Wardrobe
The doors open outwards, and the opening area should not be obstructed by furniture. Once opened, the entire interior of the wardrobe is visible, making it convenient to organize and find clothes—virtually without drawbacks.
3. Sliding Door Wardrobe
The doors slide left and right without being affected by furniture outside the wardrobe. However, sliding door wardrobes can only open halfway, and if clothes protrude from the tracks, it will affect the closing of the doors. Over time, the tracks can also become clogged.
07. Wardrobes are best embedded in the wall.
Wardrobes often take up a lot of space. In a bedroom, placing a wardrobe against the wall can make the room feel smaller and create a sense of oppression. Since the bedroom is a place for rest, a feeling of oppression is definitely a no-no in bedroom design.
Therefore, if possible, wardrobes should ideally be embedded in the wall. For example, set the wall back about 600mm to create a recessed space. Embedding the wardrobe in this recess creates the effect of "the wardrobe hidden behind the wall," visually expanding the sense of space.
