Enjoy life with a thoughtful approach to all three meals. In traditional Chinese culture, the dining room is not only a warm place for family gatherings but also the heart of the home. While a dining table alone forms the framework of a dining room, creating a refined and beautiful dining environment requires attention to numerous design details. Let's explore beautiful dining rooms of varying styles and experience the visual feast they offer.
This is part of a series curated by the 80 Design team. Through multiple chapters, we'll explore the charm of a variety of dining rooms. In the following chapters, we'll delve deeper into how various design elements, such as small, freestanding round tables, can add unique charm to a dining room.
This design is ideal for homes with spacious spaces and a dedicated dining area, especially for families of two or three.
This renovation project for a fully furnished apartment incorporates black design elements into the original layout. The designer cleverly chose a small, round table with a retro charm and black accents as the dining table, saving space while also accommodating dining for two. When entertaining more guests, the dining table can be easily expanded to seat four, accommodating any occasion.
The ceiling light is perfectly positioned approximately 70 centimeters from the table, allowing the retro, petal-shaped fixture to blend seamlessly with the overall design. The soft light illuminates the dishes on the table, creating a warm and comfortable dining atmosphere. The dining chairs are also thoughtfully chosen. While they vary in style—one metal accent are slender and stylish, the other is a solid, wood design—they both cleverly incorporate black accents, creating a harmonious juxtaposition.
The adjacent black sideboard follows this same design philosophy. Its calming color and stylish design add a unique touch of eclecticism to the cream-colored interior. Its angled design not only allows for easy access but also creates a striking accent in the corner.
Next, let's take a look at the metal four-seater dining table.
It's a perfect choice for spacious homes, showcasing a unique style.
This minimalist dining room is a striking sight upon entering. The metal dining table and lamps evoke the classic charm of Bauhaus design, perfectly blending retro and futuristic design elements. Simple yet elegant, with sleek lines and a practical spirit, simple geometric elements create a harmonious unity between two-dimensional and three-dimensional space.
Adjacent to the dining table is a matching sideboard, its unusual apple green color complementing the dining chairs. The design is both simple and practical, showcasing a unique charm.
The shape of the lamps plays a crucial role in the restaurant design. The combination of metal and light tubes creates an avant-garde and bold style. This suspended metallic design not only imbues the space with a futuristic, cyberpunk-inspired surrealism, but also adds a unique charm to the entire dining room.
For long halls with limited available wall space, consider cleverly combining the dining table and sofa to create a natural partition. In long halls, a sofa is often strategically placed in the center, serving as a natural divider. Its back rests against the dining table, stabilizing the partition and providing additional support for diners. While dining, it offers a comfortable place to watch TV, and when not, it easily converts into a desk, seamlessly blending the overall harmony and aesthetic.
The long, oval dining table is unique, accommodating up to six people for dinner. Its white slate top cleverly counteracts the potentially dull walnut frame, lending the overall ambiance a lighter touch. The chic white bell-shaped ceiling light, adorned with a lovely bow, adds a fairytale feel to the space and showcases the designer's meticulous attention to detail.
Both the dining table and chairs are crafted from rich, textured walnut, incorporating Bauhaus-inspired lines, creating a sense of stability and unique character. The decorative screen nearby echoes this, adding a sense of heaviness and stability, seemingly providing a solid foundation for the sofa. A retro folding screen stands quietly in a corner, creating a unique connection with the dining area. This screen's unique design features built-in dividers, cleverly utilizing the space to store books and accessories, adding a touch of elegance to the living room. Next, let's turn our attention to the bar, cleverly transformed into a dining table. Simple yet stylish, it offers a unique dining experience for families.
A small space ideal for a living room, dining room, and kitchen trinity.
In small apartments, it's common to connect the kitchen and living room, creating a three-in-one layout. However, for homes with extremely limited space, even this integration makes it difficult to create a separate dining room. To address this situation, the designer cleverly transformed the bar on one side of the U-shaped kitchen into a partition, not only showcasing the kitchen but also visually expanding the living room. The bar also cleverly converts into a dining table, achieving efficient space utilization.
The small dining table complements the high stools, which easily stow away beneath the bar when not in use, saving space. Enjoying a meal or watching a movie here offers a distinctly different experience from simply sitting on the sofa, adding a unique sense of comfort. It also makes dishwashing much easier.
The bar counter is 80cm high, matching the cabinets, making it a discreet support for the sofa while adding a sense of depth to the space. The cream-colored sofa blends harmoniously with the marble-patterned bar counter, perfectly complementing the currently popular cream-colored theme. Furthermore, the dining table cleverly extends the kitchen's functionality, connecting the dining and cooking areas for both practicality and aesthetics.
It's suitable for a traditional two-living room layout.
The simple solid wood dining table and chairs are sturdy and durable, their width cleverly framing the cabinets and partition wall, adding a harmonious and unified overall layout. The partition wall section cleverly incorporates switches and a small clock, adding practicality while visually reducing the heaviness of the wall and creating a more airy and light space.
The dining chairs complement the table, blending seamlessly into the overall layout even in a confined space. The armchairs for parents embody both dignity and comfort, while the bench design is tailored to the needs of the two children. The backless bench allows them to climb up and down freely, fully showcasing their playful innocence. This design also effectively reduces the risk of bumps and bumps in the aisles, ensuring both safety and convenience.
The cabinets next to the dining table cleverly combine the functionality of a western kitchen with the practicality of a sideboard. The center section provides space for a coffee maker and tea set, while also ensuring ample outlets. The upper cabinets feature glass doors, providing a dedicated storage space for less-used but beautiful items while protecting them from dust.
Next, let's explore the design and coordination of the island counter and dining table.
A spacious apartment perfect for a living room, dining room, and kitchen trinity.
This spacious apartment also features a trinity design with a connected dining room, living room, and kitchen. Thanks to its ample space, it easily accommodates not only an island counter but also a unique dining table. Unlike typical dining table designs, this one cleverly features a semi-circular shape on one side, saving space and effectively reducing clashes. This design concept is worth emulating for other families.
The island and dining table feature a two-tone black wood design, matching the cabinetry, creating a simple yet stylish aesthetic. The cool metal ceiling light further enhances the minimalist style, adding a touch of cool to the space.
The table is custom-designed, with legs made of lightweight transparent acrylic, creating a cylindrical shape that makes the tabletop appear to float lightly. This table is not only unique but also suitable for a variety of occasions, whether it's enjoying a meal, enjoying afternoon tea, working, or helping children with homework.
Suitable for large apartments with spacious double living rooms.
This dining room boasts a unique design. While the round table and chairs may not be striking, the adjacent sideboard is truly distinctive. It eschews the popular multi-layered design in favor of a minimalist and practical style. The red-on-top, gray-on-bottom striped cabinetry adds a touch of sophistication to the dining room, while the linear lighting above creates a warm atmosphere. This space not only serves as a dining area but also cleverly integrates a western kitchen, seamlessly integrating the sideboard and water bar. A solid wood round table brings the family together, creating a warm and harmonious atmosphere for both dining and casual conversation.
The north balcony originally featured a bay window, but the designer cleverly connected it to the bar countertop, creating a practical chest of drawers. This design not only provides more storage space but also expands the countertop area. Once considered a dispensable feature, the bay window has been successfully transformed into a more practical design element.
