Many apartments now come with walk-in rooms, and many people want to create walk-in rooms in their homes.

When decorating a walk-in room, people generally focus on two key aspects: aesthetics and practicality. Simply put, it means looking good and being practical.

However, if we don't master these skills, it's difficult to create a walk-in room that's both beautiful and practical.

Here, Home Miscellaneous will share four tips to ensure a walk-in room that's both beautiful and practical.

(I): Layout

To create a walk-in room that's both beautiful and practical, we must first focus on its layout.

Layout refers to the overall layout of the room.

When designing a walk-in room, it's crucial to consider its specific shape and size.

For common walk-in rooms, I recommend the following three aesthetically pleasing and practical layout options:

①. Linear. A linear layout is designed for narrow walk-ins, where the layout is confined to one wall. The approach is to fill one wall of the dressing room with cabinets.

②. L-Shape: An L-shaped layout places cabinets on two walls of a dressing room, leaving the remaining space empty to maximize space utilization.

③. Three-Sided Layout: A three-sided layout involves installing cabinets on all three walls of the dressing room, utilizing all the space.

Suggestions:

①. When designing a dressing room layout, first determine the dimensions. Specifically, the length and width of the dressing room should ensure adequate space for changing clothes. Then, design the cabinets.

②. When designing a dressing room layout, try to create cabinets that reach the ceiling. For example, modern wardrobes with doors that reach the ceiling can be used in dressing rooms.

(II): Style

The second point we need to pay special attention to when decorating and designing a dressing room is the style of the cabinets within.

Many people, like me, choose traditional wardrobes without careful planning when decorating their dressing rooms.

Traditional wardrobes look awkward and inconvenient when placed in a dressing room.

So, when choosing wardrobes for your dressing room, try customizing them. A custom wardrobe is both aesthetically pleasing and practical.

For this reason, we recommend the following wardrobe styles:

①. A wardrobe with a single door that reaches the ceiling is the top priority. Regardless of the material used, the wardrobe should have a single door that reaches the ceiling. The cabinet body should be completely ceiling-high, and the doors should also reach the ceiling.

②. Next, we can use the wall as a storage rack. For example, we can create a frame wardrobe. This involves installing a metal frame on the wall and then placing horizontal panels on top, creating a frame wardrobe.

③. Finally, we can choose a custom wooden wardrobe. Wooden wardrobes also have single doors that reach the ceiling. If you want to save money on customizing your dressing room, you can buy the wood yourself and have a carpenter create the wardrobe. This is also a good option.

Recommended Guidelines:

①. The style of the dressing room must complement the overall interior design, including the shape and color. Avoid anything too abrupt; this will create a more harmonious and aesthetically pleasing look.

②. When choosing a style, consider practicality. Simply put, it means your room can accommodate as many clothes as possible. Therefore, we recommend choosing a wardrobe that reaches the ceiling.

(III): Material Selection

To ensure a beautiful and practical dressing room, the third thing we need to consider is the wardrobe style.

Wardrobe style refers to the material used to construct the wardrobe.

Currently, common wardrobe styles include wooden wardrobes, aluminum alloy wardrobes, and frame wardrobes.

If you want a beautiful and practical dressing room, I recommend choosing the following:

①. Frame wardrobes are preferred. Frame wardrobes use a metal frame with standard doors installed. This is the most practical and environmentally friendly option.

②. Next, we recommend choosing an aluminum wardrobe. Made of aluminum alloy, these wardrobes are relatively thin. However, they offer excellent value from both an environmental and practical perspective.

③. Finally, I recommend choosing a wardrobe made of wood panels. For example, choose a wardrobe made of particle board or eco-friendly board. The only important thing to note is that you must choose environmentally friendly panels.

Notes:

①. Since a closet is generally a closed space, we don't recommend choosing a wardrobe made of wood panels. Choosing materials that don't meet environmental standards will cause the closet to constantly smell.

②. If you want to balance environmental protection, space, and durability, a frame is actually a good choice. Metal frames can be used to create wardrobes that are open or have doors.

(IV): Doors

Finally, if you want a closet that's both aesthetically pleasing and practical, you also need to pay attention to the doors.

Many people don't pay attention and choose conventional doors. They find that they have to lean sideways every time they open the doors, which is very awkward.

These problems are actually determined by the size of the closet.

So, when choosing closet doors, you must choose the appropriate doors based on the specific dimensions of your closet.

Regarding closet doors, I recommend the following options:

① If your closet is very spacious and there's still more than 1 meter of clearance after installing the wardrobe, you can opt for standard swing doors. The width of the closet should generally be around 3 meters.

② If your closet isn't particularly wide, you should measure the depth of the wardrobe. This is generally 55cm to 60cm. If you find there's only about 1 meter left, we recommend installing sliding doors.

③ There's another option for closet doors: go open without doors. This is actually quite convenient for storing clothes.

Recommended Options:

① Regarding closet doors, my personal recommendation is to avoid them. This is because the closet is inherently enclosed and hidden when closed. This makes it more practical.

② If you're worried that a closet without doors will look cluttered and unsightly, we recommend installing curtains. These curtains can be drawn for both aesthetics and practicality.
