[Technology Explanation] What is the significance of industrial drying of veneer?

August-26th-2025

China's wood-based panel industry is undergoing a transformation. A key difference compared to other parts of the world lies in the fact that China divides the industry into two nearly independent sectors: veneer production and wood-based panel production. This unique industrial structure results in inconsistent production, with the veneer drying process acting as a "discontinuity" between the two steps.

Currently, there are three main methods for drying veneer in China's veneer and wood-based panel industry: sun drying, circulating dryers, and respirator dryers. Sun drying is a manual method, while circulating dryers and respirator dryers are industrial methods using equipment.

Fuqing LVL uses a breathing dryer, which intelligently adjusts the temperature parameters based on the moisture content of the single board and weather conditions, and dries at a constant temperature to ensure the golden moisture content of the single board.

Advantages of the drying process

Advantages of drying process

Controlling the veneer drying process offers several benefits. First, it ensures uniform moisture content throughout the veneer and minimizes over-dried veneer, enhancing both the value and quality of the veneer. This results in fewer defects, such as cracks and warping, and a more intact veneer, further increasing its value.

Secondly, the use of advanced drying control technology can achieve process savings: energy consumption is balanced with the cost-effectiveness of the veneer, thereby improving energy efficiency; the moisture content of the veneer is appropriate, and the glue consumed in applying glue on the veneer is significantly reduced, and the formaldehyde content is also greatly reduced; because the moisture content of the veneer is uniform and the moisture in the veneer has been removed during the drying process, the pressing time is also shortened.

Furthermore, it can save labor costs during the drying and subsequent stages of the wood-based panel manufacturing process. Uniform moisture content in the core and surface of the panel results in higher quality and value, with consistent performance, such as less panel warping and more precise thickness after pressing.

The high-quality veneer with no holes or cracks used by Fuqing LVL also lays the foundation for producing high-quality core boards and improving the surface quality of panels.
