Europeans and Americans dare to use boards casually without worrying about formaldehyde exceeding the standard, because they generally use OSB boards as the base material for home decoration. It does not release formaldehyde, is strong and durable, and is lighter and smoother than furniture made of medium-density fiberboard.
Today, I will give you some basic knowledge about OSB boards.
01. Source of OSB
OSB (Oriented Strandboard) is scientifically known as Oriented Strand Board. It is also called European Pine Board or Egger Board in China. It comes from Europe and was introduced in the 1970s. It is a new type of board that developed rapidly internationally in the 1970s and 1980s.
02. Materials used for OSB
"OSB" boards are made of small-diameter timber, thinning timber, and wood core. The raw materials are mainly small-diameter timber and fast-growing thinning timber of soft needle and broad-leaved trees, such as pine, eucalyptus, fir, and poplar thinning timber. They are widely available and can be made into large panels.
OSB boards are made of unpolluted pine wood imported from Europe that is over 20 years old. They have a tight and strong structure, uniform material and strong bearing capacity.
03. OSB production process
This type of oriented structural lumber is processed into long flakes using specialized equipment. After de-oiling, drying, gluing, directional paving, and hot-pressing, the surface flakes are arranged longitudinally, while the core flakes are arranged transversely. This crisscross arrangement restructures the wood's grain structure, completely eliminating the effects of internal wood stress on processing, resulting in exceptional workability and moisture resistance.
OSB is a multi-layered, man-made structural board made from fresh, fine-textured, straight-grained pine trees. The wood is then peeled and cut into geometrically shaped shavings (typically 40-120mm long, 5-20mm wide, and 0.40-0.60mm thick) along the wood grain. After drying, synthetic resin glue and waterproofing are applied to simulate the fiber orientation of natural wood. After being oriented and laid into slabs, the boards are then hot-pressed at high temperatures. The upper and lower surfaces are symmetrical to the core, with the surface shavings arranged longitudinally and the core transversely. This overlapping, vertically staggered structure gives the finished product exceptional mechanical properties and dimensional stability, allowing it to withstand long-term loads without deforming.
04. Application of OSB board
OSB boards are widely used and can be used in interior decoration, furniture making, house construction, and packaging materials.
Healthy board materials, no need to search far and wide, Moganshan OSB boards are right there, even in the dimly lit corners. Green and environmentally friendly, they are a worthy choice.
