Precautions for construction and use of panels in the rainy season

2025-10-07

The soaring humidity during the rainy season brings inconvenience to people's homes and also poses a major challenge to renovations: how to handle the construction and storage of wood panels? Recently, some renovation projects in various provinces and cities have been plagued by serious problems such as moldy wood materials, excessive moisture levels in panels causing delamination and mold, and rust on supporting keels.

All Qiannianzhou Group products are factory-tested and meet national standards. However, during the extended rainy season, even with extreme weather, it's crucial to take the same precautions after purchasing materials. Be sure to read the instructions carefully before use to ensure risk management. Here, Xiaozhou offers a few tips for those currently renovating or about to renovate.

Lumber should be stored flat in a ventilated, dry area to prevent it from getting wet, damp, or exposed to the sun. During loading, unloading, transportation, handling, and sawing, lumber should not be exposed to the sun or rain, as this can easily lead to mold, deformation, delamination, and cracking.

The walls and construction environment being renovated should be kept dry and moisture-proof. Avoid using wood reinforcement and substrates with a moisture content exceeding 14s during renovation. Slight color variations and small, natural scars on the board surface are normal and simply indicate that the board you selected is very natural!

During rainy season renovations, contractors must be reminded and informed to implement necessary protective measures for products already installed on the walls, such as sealing with gypsum board or paint; secondary anti-corrosion treatment is required for the contact surfaces of supporting light steel keels; and unused products must be properly stored and protected. Of course, during the plum rain season or the normal rainy season, it is best not to carry out any construction if possible.

When plastering the surface of the board, please first perform waterproofing on the surface of the base material, and the moisture content of the mortar should not exceed 40% to prevent excessive moisture from entering the board body and causing blistering, delamination or mold on the board.

When pasting various finishing materials on the surface of the board, you need to clean the surface of the board and polish it smooth with wood sandpaper; at the same time, please use professional adhesives specially designed for wood, and do not use inferior glue to prevent the board surface from becoming black, moldy, discolored, etc.

Moisture and mildew resistance risk level of boards

Highest risk: flame retardant board, gypsum board

Risks exist: Eco-board, decorative veneer, multi-layer board, blockboard, integrated wood, OSB, particle board, wooden keel, secondary processing veneer, paint products

Although there are risks in constructing and using the above-mentioned boards during the rainy season, if you take protective measures in advance as Xiaozhou mentioned above, you can still reduce the risk of moisture and mildew!
