definition

Particle board, also known as chipboard, is a kind of artificial board made by cutting various branches, small-diameter wood, fast-growing wood, sawdust, etc. into pieces of a certain size, drying them, mixing them with glue, hardener, waterproofing agent, etc., and pressing them under a certain temperature and pressure. The particles are arranged unevenly.

raw material

The raw materials for particle board include wood or wood fiber, adhesives, and additives. The former accounts for over 90% of the board's dry weight. Urea-formaldehyde and phenolic resins are commonly used as adhesives. Urea-formaldehyde resins are light in color and have a low curing temperature, making them excellent for bonding particle boards made from various plant materials, such as wheat straw and rice husks. The hot pressing temperature is 195-210°C.

Advantages

1. High cost performance and low cost. Compared with plywood furniture of similar size, particleboard furniture costs less than half.

2. Easy to hold nails. Compared to MDF (medium-density fiberboard), particle board has better nail holding power. It can be easily processed (cut, drilled, milled, etc.), glued, and painted. And it is easy to get the required size.

3. Environmentally friendly and renewable. It is an environmentally friendly material, and its raw materials mostly come from inter-forest felled timber, small-diameter timber (usually under 8cm in diameter), logging residues, and wood processing residues. Wood chips, shavings, wood fibers, sawdust, and other forms processed into flakes, strips, needles, and granules are called chips.

Choice of particle board

1. The wood used. High-quality particle board has sawdust of relatively consistent size and color. Low-quality particle board often has a lot of waste added during processing, which affects the overall quality of the board.

2. Technology. When distinguishing particle board, you can see whether its layers are clear. High-quality particle board also has smaller gaps and is more compact overall. Inferior particle board will be loose.

3. Environmental rating. Domestic board materials meeting the E1 formaldehyde emission level are considered environmentally friendly products. High-quality particle board generally reaches E0 or higher. You can also distinguish by smelling it, checking for a pungent glue odor.
