Fire is the origin of human civilization. Tamed fire is a friend of mankind, bringing warmth and light. But uncontrolled fire is the beginning of human disaster. Merciless fire will cruelly take away our happy homes.
Faced with brutal fires, can we take precautions and minimize the losses and damage caused by fires?
Fortunately, modern civilization has promoted the development of science and technology, and more and more high-tech applications are being used in our lives. Flame-retardant boards are a reassurance that enables us to fight against all avoidable fire hazards.
Flame retardant board, the secret of flame retardancy
Flame retardant theory:
Relying on the surface covering effect of the flame retardant, it prevents the wood surface from exchanging substances and energy with the surrounding environment, cutting off the oxygen supply, inhibiting the generation of combustible gases, and slowing down the thermal decomposition of the wood;
Thermal Theory:
The flame retardant is used in the board to dissipate heat, absorb heat and insulate heat, inhibiting the wood from reaching the thermal decomposition temperature and catching fire;
Non-combustible gas dilution theory:
When heated, flame retardants decompose into non-combustible gases, which reduce the heat around the burning surface. At the same time, the non-combustible gases dilute the concentration of combustible gases, interfering with the combustion chain reaction.
Free radical capture theory:
Halogen series flame retardants can generate highly active free radicals at thermal decomposition temperatures. These free radicals can capture the highly active OH radicals and H ions released when wood burns, interfering with the combustion chain reaction.
Volatile reduction theory:
Flame retardants catalyze the pyrolysis process of wood, causing it to develop in the direction of increasing charcoal production and reducing combustible gas dust, so as to form a surface and charcoal protective layer to inhibit flaming combustion.
Identification of flame retardant boards
touch:
Touch the board surface with your hand to see if it is smooth.
burn:
Use a blade to cut off a small piece (2-3mm in diameter) and light it horizontally.
A1: non-flammable, no open flame
Grade A2: Non-flammable, smoke must be measured and qualified.
Class B1: Flame-retardant building materials: Flame-retardant materials have good flame retardancy. They are difficult to catch fire when exposed to open flames or high temperatures in the air, are unlikely to spread quickly, and stop burning immediately when the fire source is removed.
Class B2: Combustible building materials: These materials have a certain degree of flame retardancy. When exposed to open flames or high temperatures in the air, they will immediately catch fire and burn, easily leading to the spread of fire, such as wooden columns, wooden roof trusses, wooden beams, and wooden stairs.
Class B3: Flammable building materials: no flame retardant effect, extremely easy to burn, and high fire risk.
pinch:
Use your fingernails to pinch the core of the board to feel its hardness or softness; then use your fingernails to push upwards near the surface of the board to see if there is any peeling of the surface layer.
Bubble:
Soak a small sample in cold water for 24 hours and observe how much the thickness increases; then let it dry naturally and observe the deformation of the board surface after drying.
flame retardant board
The flame retardant performance of the flame retardant board is B1 grade, which has a good flame retardant effect. When encountering a fire, it can effectively suppress the open flame and reduce the heat, thereby buying more time for escape and fire arrival.
In the test report of the flame retardant board, the filter paper in the experiment was not ignited, nor did it reach the long wing edge of the sample, and there were no burning drips and particles within 600 seconds.
The flame retardancy, smoke suppression and smoke toxicity of flame retardant plywood meet the national standard requirements of GB 20286-2006 "Combustion performance requirements and labeling of flame retardant products and components in public places", and it is a new generation of practical safety protection board in the home building materials industry.
Although fire is merciless, social progress and technological development have led to the emergence of flame retardant boards, making us more capable of dealing with sudden fires.
