One of the most important parts of home decoration is making furniture. And the most important thing to solve when making furniture is the material selection: particle board or multi-layer board? Let's take a look below!
01. Look at the raw materials
In terms of raw materials, multi-layer boards are made from large-diameter peeled veneers, which are closer to solid wood, making the quality of the finished boards easier to control. Particle board, on the other hand, is made from scraps, sawdust, and even scraps of waste cardboard, broken old doors and windows, and old flooring. This makes it difficult to control the raw materials, resulting in varying quality in the finished boards.
02. Look at the physical properties
In terms of physical properties, multi-layer boards, constructed by applying pressure horizontally and vertically with single sheets laid flat, achieve uniform stress distribution, resulting in excellent physical properties. Furthermore, after high-temperature hot pressing, the internal shrinkage and expansion coefficient of the multi-layer boards is very low, making deformation and cracking virtually nonexistent, thus enhancing product quality stability. However, particle board, due to its structural characteristics, lacks these performance advantages.
03. Look at the processing technology
Because multi-layer boards offer stable physical properties and are easy to process, specialized processing equipment can be used quickly in furniture production. They can also be individually processed by carpenters using either hand saws or precision saws, without risking chipping or cracking. Particleboard, on the other hand, is generally manufactured using large-scale equipment from large manufacturers due to its unstable properties.
04. Look at the nail holding force
There's a fundamental difference in nail holding strength between the two. A board's nail holding strength depends primarily on its physical properties. Multilayer boards, thanks to their unique manufacturing processes, maintain their nail holding strength even after repeated assembly and disassembly. This isn't the case with particleboard, which generally struggles to maintain nail holding strength. Repeated assembly and disassembly can easily lead to loosening of the entire furniture.
05. Look at market trends
Many people assume particle board is the mainstream, while multilayer board is reserved for smaller furniture manufacturers. This is quite the opposite. Currently, internationally renowned brands use many times more multilayer board per year than many domestic particle board manufacturers. Domestic brands, however, often use particle board only within their domestic operations and lack international reach.
06. Look at environmental performance
Multi-layer boards use less glue because they are made by applying glue layer by layer to each board and then pressing it together. This reduces the amount of glue used, making environmental performance easier to control. By using formaldehyde-free plant-based glue, multi-layer boards often achieve environmental performance levels above E0. This is not the case with particleboard, which is a type of particleboard and uses more glue. Therefore, to reduce costs, cheaper urea-formaldehyde glue is often used. This significantly reduces the environmental impact of the finished board, making it difficult to guarantee environmental protection.
[in conclusion]
In summary, multi-layer board outperforms particle board in every aspect, from processing to physical properties, making it a naturally more suitable material for furniture. Our solid wood multi-layer core eco-friendly board series utilizes carefully selected high-quality medium- and large-diameter log slices, a strictly controlled production process, and is bonded with a new, environmentally friendly plant-based soy glue, ensuring excellent environmental performance. The board's environmental rating exceeds the national E0 standard.
