1. Technical Introduction
This technology was developed by the Wood Chemistry Application Research Team of the Institute of Wood Industry, Chinese Academy of Forestry with the support of national science and technology support projects and special projects of the National Key R&D Program. It uses defatted soybean meal powder as raw material to develop a new formaldehyde-free soy protein adhesive for artificial boards. This adhesive is green and environmentally friendly, has good water resistance, high bonding strength, does not contain toxic and harmful substances such as formaldehyde and benzene compounds, and no harmful gases are released during the adhesive production process, which completely solves the problem of formaldehyde and other volatile organic compound pollution caused by artificial board products.
2. Technical Features
- The soybean meal protein directional grafting technology improves the pre-compression and sizing properties of soybean glue.
- The synergistic cross-linking enhancement technology solves the technical problems of traditional soybean glue such as high viscosity, low bonding strength and poor water resistance.
- The green modification technology of soybean meal protein ensures that no harmful gases are released during the production and use of adhesives.
3. Economic and technical indicators
-
Solid content 38% to 42%, viscosity 6,000 to 8,000 mPa·s, storage period more than 30 days;
-
The water-resistant bonding strength reaches Class II water-resistant bonding strength in the national standard (test result is 1.0MPa);
-
Formaldehyde emission is 0.02 to 0.08 mg/L;
-
The total volatile organic compound (TVOC) emission rate is 0.02 mg/(m2·h);
-
The plywood will not come apart after being boiled in boiling water for more than 4 hours.
4. Product competitiveness and market prospects
This technology is a key path for the transition and upgrade of wood-based panels to "formaldehyde-free" products, aligning with the nation's sustainable development goals. This adhesive is easy to use, requiring only room-temperature mixing. It's easily applied and can replace conventional formaldehyde-containing adhesives for wood-based panels. Manufacturers can adjust the viscosity of the protein adhesive based on the product characteristics and process. It is suitable for the production of plywood, blockboard, and engineered wood flooring substrates, as well as for veneer applications on particleboard, fiberboard, plywood, and blockboard. It has been demonstrated and applied in numerous wood-based panel manufacturers and holds broad market potential.
