1. Technical Introduction

Developed by the Institute of Wood Industry, Chinese Academy of Forestry, the manufacturing technology for bamboo engineering materials for construction is a structural composite material produced using specially restructured bamboo materials. The technology primarily produces two types of products: bamboo laminated timber for building structures and bamboo panels for building envelopes. Bamboo laminated timber, with structural bamboo strips as its structural units, is primarily used for structural components such as beams, purlins, rafters, and columns; bamboo panels are primarily used for building envelopes such as wall panels, roof slats, and floor slabs. This technology has secured four invention patents, promoted one forestry industry standard and one national standard, and won the First Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award (one of the award-winning achievements).

2. Technical Features

Bamboo laminated lumber technology uses bamboo strips processed from bamboo as the basic unit. Structural bamboo strips are produced through gluing, assembly, and hot pressing. The bamboo strips are then graded, assembled, and glued into laminated lumber. This product offers stable performance, excellent bending, compression, and tensile strength, and can be used in load-bearing components such as beams, purlins, trusses, and columns in buildings. Bamboo panel technology for building envelopes uses bamboo mats, bamboo strips, or bamboo shavings as the main units to produce high-strength panels for wall, floor, and roof panels.

3. Market Prospects

During the 10th Five-Year Plan period, the Institute of Wood Industry of the Chinese Academy of Forestry developed a manufacturing technology for bamboo engineering materials for construction. Demonstrations have been conducted in Yunnan, Beijing, Sichuan, Wuhan, and other locations for both permanent and temporary structures to meet the needs of diverse applications. my country has abundant bamboo resources, and the implementation of this technology could provide customized options for promoting the development of domestically produced wood structures.
