When people buy home building materials, they usually look at the price and ask about the quality. If they don’t pay special attention, they usually don’t pay attention to the type of board. However, the board is often related to the environmental protection and quality of the wooden door. So proper understanding of some board knowledge can help you choose better quality wooden doors or home building materials.

What kind of boards are used for your wooden doors? Do you know?

1. Types of boards

1. Solid wood board

As the name suggests, solid wood panels are made from intact wood. These panels are durable, have a natural grain, and are an excellent choice for home renovations. However, due to their high cost and demanding construction process, they are not widely used in home renovations.

2. Splint

Plywood, also known as veneer and commonly known in the industry as thin core board, is made from three or more layers of one-millimeter-thick veneer or sheet material glued together and hot-pressed. It is currently the most commonly used material for handmade furniture. Plywood is generally available in six sizes: 3cm, 5cm, 9cm, 12cm, 15cm, and 18cm (1cm is equal to 1mm).

3. Decorative panels

Decorative panels, commonly known as panels, are made by precisely slicing solid wood into thin veneers approximately 0.2mm thick. They are a special form of plywood, with a thickness of 3mm. Decorative panels are a premium decorative material, distinct from those made with mixed oils.

4. Blockboard

Blockboard, commonly known in the industry as core board, is made from two single-board panels glued together and pressed together. Core board is cheaper than thin-core board and has lower vertical bending strength (determined by the direction of the core material), but higher transverse bending strength.

5. Particleboard

Thin boards are made from wood chips, impregnated with glue and additives, and then pressed. Based on the pressing method, they can be divided into two categories: extruded particleboard and flat-pressed particleboard. The main advantage of this type of board is its extremely low price. However, its disadvantage is also obvious: its extremely low strength. It is generally not suitable for large furniture or furniture with high mechanical requirements.

6. Density board

Also known as fiberboard. It is an artificial board made of wood fiber or other plant fiber with other suitable adhesives. Density board is soft and impact-resistant, and easy to reprocess. In foreign countries, it is a good material for making furniture. The domestic standard for density board is several times lower than the international standard. Therefore, the quality of density board in China still needs to be improved .

7. Fireproof board

Decorative panels made from siliceous or calcareous materials, mixed with a certain proportion of fiber, lightweight aggregate, adhesives, and chemical additives. This is a widely adopted new material. It's environmentally friendly and fireproof, so it's more expensive than decorative panels.
