What is flame retardant board

In the building materials market, flame retardant boards are called many things, such as flame retardant plywood, flame retardant plywood, flame retardant board and so on.

This type of board is a three-layer or multi-layer plywood made by rotary cutting logs into wood chips, treating the wood chips with flame retardant treatment, and then gluing them together with adhesive. It usually uses an odd number of wood chips, and glues the fibers of adjacent layers of wood chips perpendicular to each other. It can largely overcome the defects of wood and greatly improve and enhance the physical and mechanical properties of wood. At the same time, it also overcomes the shortcoming of ordinary plywood that is easy to burn, and effectively improves the flame retardant properties of plywood.

To ensure personal safety, the decoration of public places has strict fire prevention requirements. In public places such as commercial plazas, stations, libraries, and exhibition halls, various flame-retardant materials are required, including flame-retardant panels. When a fire occurs indoors, flame-retardant panels can inhibit the spread of fire and reduce the heat of the fire, thus buying people valuable time to escape.

Flame retardant boards have five major properties: flame retardancy, smoke suppression, corrosion resistance, insect resistance and stability. They can be said to be very practical.

Classification of flame retardant panels

GB8624 is the abbreviation for Classification of Combustion Performance of Building Materials and Products. It was first issued in China in 1988 and subsequently underwent three revisions: GB8624-1997, GB8624-2006, and finally GB8624-2012.

GB8624-2006 divides fire protection levels into seven levels: A1, A2, B, C, D, E, and F.

In the standard GB8624-2012, the grades of flame retardant panels are divided into four levels: A, B1, B2 and B3 according to the combustion performance of building materials and products.

Class A is a non-combustible material (product). The flame retardant level that reaches Class A is very high, and the price is also higher.

Grade B1 is a flame-retardant material (product). Generally, high-end public places are decorated with flame-retardant board fire-resistant grade materials.

B2 grade is a combustible material (product), which is not easy to burn, but has a certain fireproof effect in terms of fire retardancy. This type of board is generally used in mid-to-low-end public places.

Grade B3 is a flammable material (product) with no flame retardant effect, extremely easy to burn, and a high risk of fire.

Currently, the more popular flame retardant boards on the market all belong to the B1 fire protection grade standard. To know which fire protection grade standard the flame retardant boards belong to, you generally need to consult the manufacturers of the flame retardant boards to find out.

When purchasing flame retardant boards, you can ask the manufacturer to provide relevant grade certificates to determine which standard the combustion performance of the flame retardant boards belongs to.
