What are some common garden wood types? How should we choose? Today, the editor of Zhongmu Business Network will talk about the types of common garden wood and how to distinguish them. We will start with the price and grade of the materials, from low to high.

1. Ecological wood/plastic wood

I believe that eco-friendly wood and plastic wood are the lowest-end in terms of appearance and feel, as they are new synthetic materials and not natural wood. Eco-friendly wood is now widely used in the decoration market, favored by renovation owners and companies, and offers a better texture than sauna boards. Plastic wood, primarily used for outdoor flooring, has become increasingly popular in both public and private settings in recent years. Its advantages include resistance to cracking and oil leakage. However, the disadvantages of both eco-friendly wood and plastic wood include an unnatural, stiff appearance, aging, poor UV resistance, and deformation. In fact, the unit price of core plastic wood panels is no cheaper than preservative wood of the same specifications.

2. Antiseptic wood

Anticorrosive wood doesn't just refer to a specific type of wood; it's a general term encompassing all wood types that have undergone preservative treatment. Common examples include Scots pine, southern pine, Douglas fir, and Finnish pine. Origins include the United States, Russia, Canada, and Europe. Some are purely imported from the United States, including Southern pine and Finnish pine, while others are mostly logs or square timber imported by domestic manufacturers and then processed for preservative treatment. High-pressure impregnation is often used, using CCA and ACQ preservatives.

Three: Deep carbonized wood

The so-called carbonized wood pavilions, flower boxes, fences, and other items sold on the market, including Taobao, are all fake. Strictly speaking, it should be called flamed wood, or more politely, surface carbonization. This type of wood preservative treatment is only superficial and cannot truly protect against decay, insects, or termites. This is self-deception on the part of merchants. Don't believe that cheap goods are always cheap. Surface carbonization in garden timber production is a secondary process after preservative treatment; it's never done by burning white wood to pass it off as genuine. Authentic carbonized wood must be carbonized from the inside out. We believe that deeply carbonized wood is the most environmentally friendly outdoor landscape wood besides hardwood, and it's also suitable for indoor use. We'll discuss carbonized wood in detail in a later article.

Four: High-resistance bamboo/outdoor bamboo

High-resistant bamboo has many other names, including deep carbon bamboo, light carbon bamboo, low-resistant bamboo, and heavy bamboo. Why are these nicknames used? The original manufacturer of this product doesn't use these names; it simply calls it high-resistant bamboo or outdoor bamboo. Other names are simply given by individual manufacturers based on the quality of their products. High-resistant bamboo is made by subjecting the material to high temperatures and high pressures, achieving a carbonized finish from the inside out. It shares similarities with deep carbonized wood. High-resistant bamboo is a natural material that has been artificially processed through multiple carbonization processes. Its quality depends on the carbonization process and the quality of the synthetic glue. Light carbon bamboo, commonly known as light carbon bamboo, will develop mildew and blackening after 2-3 years of use.

5. Hardwood/natural antiseptic wood

Hardwood is also known as naturally preservative wood because it achieves its desired antiseptic properties without artificial preservative treatment. Indonesian merbau is considered the highest quality, while others are classified by origin as Malay merbau, African merbau, and South American merbau. Balau, camphor, eucalyptus, and silverwood are also suitable for outdoor landscaping applications.
