UV paint generally refers to light-curing paint (photosensitive paint)
Photocurable coatings, also known as photosensitive coatings, use ultraviolet light as the energy source for curing. Photocurable coatings (also known as photosensitizing coatings) do not require heating and can rapidly cure to form films on flammable substrates such as paper, plastic, leather, and wood. They are primarily composed of a photosensitive resin, a photosensitizer (photoinitiator), and a diluent. Additives such as heat stabilizers are also added, and pigments and fillers are added during the preparation of pigmented paints. Photosensitive resins are generally low-molecular-weight resins with unsaturated bonds, such as unsaturated polyesters and acrylic oligomers. Photosensitizers are compounds that readily absorb ultraviolet light to generate reactive free radicals, such as benzophenone and benzoin alkyl ethers. Diluents primarily reduce the viscosity of the coating and also participate in the curing and film formation process; they are reactive diluents, such as styrene and acrylates. The advantages of photocurable coatings include short curing times (from a fraction of a second to several minutes), low curing temperatures, and low volatile matter. They are energy- and resource-efficient, pollution-free, and highly efficient new coatings.
