The board finish that must be mentioned

2025-10-05

There are thousands of boards on the market. Boards on the market can be roughly divided into several types such as density board, wood board, particle board, multi-layer board, etc., but the finishes of the boards can be rich and varied!

The main reason for the board to be more upscale is the surface finishing. Although the surface patterns are varied, there are roughly four types of finishing.

Category 1

Melamine impregnated film paper

Melamine veneer is a process where decorative paper is printed with a pattern and then impregnated with melamine adhesive to create a melamine-coated paper. This is then hot-pressed onto the board substrate. Because it requires high surface flatness, it is commonly used for surface finishing on particleboard and medium-density fiberboard. This type of board, often called melamine board, boasts a wear-resistant, realistic surface texture, scratch resistance, and excellent water resistance, making it widely applicable.

Category II

PVC film finish

The biggest advantage of PVC coating is its softness! Therefore, it is often used to cover fiberboard with good shapeability. It helps to enhance the fiberboard's moisture resistance and can also create a classical Western style. However, the biggest disadvantage of PVC coating is the high price of double-sided coating. Generally, only the front is coated, while the back is usually covered with a white triamine finish.

Category 3

Paint finish

Unlike the previous types of board finishes, a paint finish is sprayed onto the substrate. This allows for direct application on all six sides of the board, providing excellent waterproofing and moisture resistance and easy cleaning. However, its disadvantages are the complex and time-consuming production process and the high price. Painted board, on the other hand, is made by coating fiberboard with a paint finish and is primarily used in home furnishings such as cabinets and sideboards.

Category 4

Solid wood veneer finish

The solid wood veneer is pasted on medium-density fiberboard/particleboard/multi-layer solid wood and other boards through a high-temperature hot press to become a solid wood veneer decorative panel.

Because veneers are divided into imported and domestic, and precious wood and ordinary wood, the range of choices is relatively large, so the grade of solid wood veneer panels is determined by the material type and thickness of the solid wood veneer.

Solid wood veneer boards require the surface to be painted. Due to the different veneer and painting processes, the same veneer can easily produce different effects, so solid wood veneer has higher requirements for veneer and painting processes.

Solid wood veneer board is the main finishing method adopted by high-end furniture at home and abroad because of its real, natural feel and high grade, but it is relatively high in terms of materials and cost.

A type of technological veneer is currently popular in China. It is favored by consumers for its natural texture, diverse patterns, no color difference, and large size.
