Poplar, a vital timber resource in my country, enjoys a wide range of uses and a huge market. To standardize the market for dried poplar timber, promote its application in the furniture and building materials industries, and foster the development and brand promotion of leading companies producing and distributing dried poplar timber, the China Timber and Wood Products Distribution Association has decided to develop a group standard for dried poplar timber, based on the "Group Standard Management Regulations" issued by the National Standardization Administration and the Ministry of Civil Affairs. This standard will regulate the production and application of dried poplar timber in terms of dimensions, dimensional deviations, drying defects, material properties, and intended uses. This will ultimately improve the overall technical level of dried poplar timber and standardize the practices of poplar producers.

By compiling this standard, the China Timber and Wood Products Distribution Association will organize a survey on the resources and applications of fast-growing poplar timber, visit major poplar producing areas and poplar consumer markets such as Henan, Shandong, Hubei, Hunan, and Jiangsu, visit large-scale poplar processing and application companies, and collect first-hand information on dried sawn poplar timber.

The association will also hold a press conference at important conferences it hosts to solemnly release this standard to the industry, and use the association's traditional and new media to widely publicize the standard and "advertise" it to the industry.

After the standard is completed, a one-year standard promotion activity will be organized to ensure that the standard becomes a practical standard that is generally recognized and adopted by the industry in the shortest possible time. Enterprises that have done a good job in adopting the standard will be given priority publicity and promotion; and the standard upgrade work will be actively promoted. When conditions are ripe, the standard will be promoted to an industry standard.
