Wooden structures have a history of thousands of years in China. However, do you know much about modern wooden structures?
Modern timber structures are constructed using standardized timber materials combined with modern advanced design concepts and construction techniques. The current mainstream structural types include light trusses and heavy beams and columns.
Modern wooden buildings
The raw materials of modern wooden structures are processed by modern industrial means. The moisture content is controlled by drying; the service life of the wood is increased by anti-corrosion technology; and different cutting methods such as string cutting are used to rationally utilize the structural properties of the wood.
Features
1. The corrosion resistance and durability of modern wooden structures have been greatly improved.
2. The raw materials are environmentally friendly and pollution-free, and the building wood materials can be recycled and reused.
3. In terms of height, the Norwegian company Voll Arkitekter has exceeded 85.4 meters.
4. The construction period of the building is short and the construction process is simple and clear.
5. Excellent earthquake resistance.
The difference between modern wooden structures and traditional wooden structures:
First, today's timber structures aren't simply made from logs. Unlike the past, where a single piece of wood was sawed and shaped to create beams or columns, modern timber structures use engineered wood. This wood is fundamentally different from logs in that it's processed using modern industrial methods and advanced technology into beams, columns, and other components suitable for construction. For example, wood boards and plywood are different. Although both are made from wood, there's a difference: plywood undergoes processing.
Second, the connection method of wooden structures has changed. Traditional wooden structures are connected by mortise and tenon joints, but now there are many more connection methods such as metal and gluing.
Third, the materials of modern wooden structures can be reused many times. According to the situation in some countries with relatively advanced wooden structure technology in the world, the materials can be reused six to seven times, and finally made into wood pellets for burning for heating.
