Also flame retardant, why did I choose flame retardant ecological board

Flame retardant boards and flame retardant ecological boards are two major categories of boards. Both have good flame retardant properties. So why did I choose flame retardant ecological boards for home decoration?

Flame-retardant plywood is a three- or multi-layered material made by peeling wood segments into veneers or planing wood blocks into veneers, then gluing them together with adhesive. Typically, an odd number of layers are used, with the fibers of adjacent layers glued perpendicular to each other. A high-performance flame retardant is added to the middle of the material. This coating prevents the wood from exchanging energy with the surrounding environment, cutting off its oxygen supply. Furthermore, at high temperatures, the flame retardant releases highly active free radicals, disrupting chain reactions and effectively preventing flammable combustion.

Flame-retardant eco-friendly panels are made by soaking melamine paper of varying colors or textures in resin, drying to a certain degree of solidification, then applying it to the surface of blockboard or plywood and heat-pressing it to create decorative panels. Using an environmentally friendly, modified adhesive with a high-molecular-weight, halogen-free flame retardant, multiple flame-retardant layers are formed on and within the panels. When exposed to open flames, these layers achieve flame retardancy through a phosphorus-nitrogen synergistic effect, promoting carbon formation in the condensed phase, capturing free radicals, and diluting combustible gases in the gas phase.

Simply put, both flame retardant plywood and flame retardant ecological board use flame retardants to achieve flame retardant purposes. It can be said that flame retardant ecological board is an upgraded version of flame retardant plywood with melamine paper veneer added to its surface.

From an aesthetic point of view

Flame-retardant plywood is primarily used for interior linings and requires surface finishing, such as painting. However, flame-retardant eco-friendly boards do not require this and can be used directly in home furnishings. Therefore, flame-retardant plywood is more suitable for renovation projects in public facilities such as hotels, shopping malls, and office buildings, as well as high-end residential buildings. Flame-retardant eco-friendly boards offer clear, natural textures, resistance to discoloration and fading, and a wide variety of textures and colors, making them ideal for satisfying the aesthetic needs of home decor.

From the perspective of cost

As a new type of product, ecological board combines the functions of veneer and plywood (or blockboard) into one. The advantage of being paint-free makes it better than the "combination of two boards". Compared with flame-retardant plywood, it saves production processes while increasing the added value of the product, saving consumers decoration costs and labor costs.

From this point of view, although both have flame retardant functions and the environmental protection level can reach E0 or E1, the flame retardant ecological board is better. It can save decoration costs and meet our pursuit of appearance.

So, when decorating my home, I chose flame-retardant ecological boards. What about you?
